John 3:16   For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 1:12   But as many as received Him, to those who believe in His name…, to them He gave the right to become children of God

Acts 16:30-32 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.

What does it mean to “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”?

James 2:19   You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!

Romans 10:8-13   8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Mark 1:14-15   14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Mark 9:23-24   23 Jesus said to him, “If  you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Luke 8:13   But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

John 8:28-59   v30-32 As He spoke these words, many believed in Him. 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”….v44-47  44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

John 5:39-40   39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

John 5:44   How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?

Hebrews 11:6    But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

A Better Word for Believe (from a message titled “Creative Lifestyles Through the Anointing” by Irving Rutherford given at Times Square Church in New York City in the early 1990’s.

A Massai  elder was listening to a young wycliff Bible translator and his interpreter reading him the Gospel of John they just finished. He was reading John 3:16 in the Massai language, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The old elder was nodding his head, he understood the words in his own language. But when they finished, he said, that word you’re using for believe, is a good word, your translator, this young man from our tribe, he understands it, he gave it to you I’m sure.  My people will understand it, I understand it. But, he said, it is not the best word for believe on this Jesus of yours. For if this Jesus of yours is a mighty king, the Son of God, the Lord of the universe, you need a better word for believe than that one. For the word your using is a word as if was killing an animal from a long distance with a great gun, and all that is involved is the eye and the finger that pulls the trigger. But, he said, a better word is the word of a lion who is after his prey, his eyes and his ears, and his nose, and all of his body muscle is involved in sensing and finding the prey, and then he brings everything into coordination to stalk it and finally with a great run, his whole body is in motion, and he throws his mighty arms out, and he embraces the animal and the victim and the lion become one. He said, that’s the word for believe in this Jesus of yours, it must be with all of you believing Him, not just the eye and the finger, but every portion of you, every part of you, fully embracing to where you and Jesus are one and people see it, and people see it. That’s the Jesus that works in cleansing power in our lives towards more than just the eye and the finger being dealt with. But all of us being brought under His control.
